Here is a little bit about who I am, my background, and how I started out.
I have an Undergraduate Degree in ‘Writing, Directing and Performance’ from the University of York, and have studied for a Masters Degree in ‘Lighting Design for Performance’ from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I have worked as a technician at the Grand Opera House York (ATG), The Barbican York (SMG), and at The Britvic Theatre at LVS Ascot School (LTC). As well as these professional venues I have undertaken the role as a designer and part time technician for smaller production companies and youth theatres. If you have any queries about my professional experience please do not hesitate to inquire through the contact page.
I began designing for theatre in 2013, during my degree at the University of York I worked as the Set Designer for our first main third year production. I have always been involved in theatre but in my final year at university I found that the creation of theatre and the pre-production process, with the emphasis design, was where my passion truly lay. After some experimentation I found that my particular focus should be within with the art of Lighting and Sound Design. I have designed a multitude of different productions over the last few years, from large auditoriums to small new writing pieces performed in the back room of an art gallery. Every performance I am involved in is equally important and every production I have been involved in has shaped my design process to date. A list of these productions can be found on the past productions page. I have a passion for artistic collaboration, as I think this can sometimes produce some of the best theatre, particulary during some of my best experiences when exploring first time productions. I am always excited to work with new companines and help to create something new in its own right, be it a new play, or just an invigorating and unique adaptation of something that has been done hundreds if times before.
